Cumin

Cumin is a biennial plant that reaches a height of 30 to 80 cm, its root is straight and spindle-shaped and fleshy, and its stem is hairless and transparent, and its leaves are green, and at the top of the stem it has a short petiole that ends It covers the stalk in a sheath, its inflorescence is compound umbel and its flowers are small and white, and its fruit is oval, dark brown or yellowish and transparent.

Cumin is a souvenir of Kerman and in ancient books it is called (commune). Its original birthplace is Kerman, where the black variety has grown up. It grows mostly on the banks of rivers and its cultivation does not require much water.

Properties of black cumin

Black cumin is the same as Kerman cumin. A biennial plant with a hollow stem and green, striped leaves that has a half-centimeter-long oval fruit with a dark brown garlic color.

  • Black cumin is a stomach tonic and windbreaker.
  • It has been shown to be very effective in increasing milk and regulating menstruation, as it is used in milk-producing drops, which are an herbal medicine used to increase the milk supply of newborn women.
  • It is useful for relieving skin inflammation.
  • Eating this fruit also eliminates body odor by increasing the amount of sweat.

Cumin is also grown in Iran in areas such as Khorasan and Tabriz. It is an annual plant that is mostly used for its crescent-shaped fruit, which is green or gray in color. Cumin is mixed with bread in Germany and cheese in the Netherlands and has a warm taste.
